What? Me? Camping?

If you couldn’t tell, I needed a very serious emotional and creative recharge. We made it to the Turner Falls Park, deep in the heart of the Arbuckle Mountains, and the largest (and really only) waterfall in the State of Oklahoma.

Of course, Kristina was there with her slightly better setup. But hey, I can still post photos from my Treo.
Our trip consisted of camping out for one night, taking star trail photographs, and shooting the proverbial breeze. The next day was a chance to explore the Falls area. On our way to the caverns and falls, we stopped at a castle built in the park in the 20’s by a professor at the University of Oklahoma. This guy had way too much free time on his hands.

It’s multiple levels, with an external watch house, a turret, a few ammenities, and an 80 year old washroom that looks about as clean as my bathroom. I didn’t get pictures of that. You’d probably thank me.

I’ve been in greater castles, when I took a trip to England many a year ago, and I still have pictures buried deep in some box in my closet, and one thing that strikes me about the differences between a castle in Oklahoma, and one in England is how well-kempt the castles in Oklahoma are compared to the ones in England.

Or, perhaps not.
On a side note, do you ever read grafiti? Sometimes it can be rather… inspiring.

And then sometimes, not so much.

And then sometimes, you’re just left scratching your head.

And of course, on any type of castle wall, I just can’t help myself.
Back to the natural, somewhat less strange scenery, we made our way around the bend, upstream, towards the falls themselves.
